Booby Dupes (The Three Stooges) (Columbia Pictures, 1945)

"What's the name of this record?" asks Moe.

"Don't chop the wood, Mother, Father's coming home with a load."

This is the first of two Phonograph in the Movie scenes in Booby Dupes.

The final scene in Booby Dupes is the second Phonograph in the Movie scene with this one featuring the "Victrola" being connected to a propeller which powers the stooges to safety.

Moe connects the "Victrola" to a propeller which powers them to safety.

Ellen Barkin has played an LP and put it back in the wrong place and her husband Daniel Stern goes ballistic when he discovers her mistake. It's a painful scene to watch. Yes, it's interesting to know what's on the "B-Side" but Stern, despite his love for LPs and his record player, can't be a Friend of the Phonograph with his obsessive LP filing system which he thinks justifies his abusive behavior. A personal album filing system is clever and funny in High Fidelity but far from it in Diner).

One Factola that was discovered in the comments section written by Thomas Lynch who noted the following about the record played by Barkin:

What's really funny about this scene is the camera focuses on the label of the record playing- a turquoise Capitol label that would accompany a Gene Vincent or Tennessee Ernie Ford Capitol label LP. But what is playing? "Having Fun" by Memphis Slim, recorded for Chess Records, which would have been on a black label with silver lettering. Almost a perfect film moment.

See "Edison in Hollywood: the Belated Infancy of the Phonograph" by Allen Koenigsberg, The Antique Phonograph, 2016, for an interesting article related to an anecdote about Edison's first-born son "which linked the birth of Thomas A. Edison Jr. with the advent of the phonograph, and the paternalistic scene is shown in the movie and on this Lobby Card."

The most dramatic scene of the movie for Friends of the Phonograph is the Victrola XVI playing "Buffalo Gals" and after an argument with Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed smashes the innocent record to pieces.

Headphones plug is jerked out by a startled Florence sharply turning her head when she sees the Martians.

Music is now coming out of the speakers and the Martians hear it with great distress.

Martians' heads explode when they hear Slim Whitman singing Indian Love Call. Learning about this Martian vulnerability the rest of the world plays Indian Love Call to defeat the Martians and Earth is saved.
